What is Grunwald Publishing?
An independent Canadian literary press with two aims: to make Belarusian literature, classic and contemporary, celebrated and censored, available to readers worldwide, and to contribute to the cultural life of the Belarusian diaspora in Canada and beyond.
Is Grunwald a Canadian company?
Yes. Grunwald Publishing Inc. is incorporated in Ontario and publishes with Canadian ISBNs.
Who runs Grunwald?
The press was founded by Olya Ianovskaia, a Belarusian-Canadian literary translator with a graduate degree in Socio-Cultural Anthropology. She oversees every stage of publishing and works with professional editors, proofreaders and illustrators. We also collaborate with Skaryna Press in London, UK.
What kinds of books do you publish?
Two kinds. First English translations of Belarusian classics and foundational works, and contemporary Belarusian writing published in the original Belarusian. Across both, our list includes fiction, folklore and folk horror, poetry, memoir, ethnography and cultural history, written in Belarusian, about Belarus, or by Belarusian authors, including diaspora writers working in English. Are all your books in English?
No. Our translations are in English, and we also publish contemporary Belarusian writers in Belarusian. Those titles are clearly marked and collected under In Belarusian.

Where can I buy your books?
Right here, and through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indigo, Apple Books, Everand, AbeBooks and Highlands Bookshop. Any bookstore can order our titles through Ingram.
Do you sell ebooks?
Yes. Most of our titles are available in EPUB format. The Belarusian Cookbook is available in hardcover only.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship worldwide with Canada Post. See our shipping policy for details.
Can I pre-order a forthcoming title?
Forthcoming books are listed under Coming soon. Join our newsletter to hear the moment they are released. Libraries and institutions can arrange pre-orders by contacting us.
Can I buy several copies for a book club, class or event?

Can bookstores order directly?

Can organisations request free examination copies?
Yes. Educational institutions, public and academic libraries, cultural non-profits and Belarusian community organisations may be eligible for examination copies on request.

Do you publish authors writing in English?
Yes. We publish Belarusian and Belarusian-diaspora authors writing in English as well as in Belarusian.
I’m a Belarusian writer. Can I send you my work?
Yes. Send a short description of the project, a sample and a few lines about yourself to mail@grunwald.ca. We’re a small press and can take on only a few titles, so please allow some time for a reply.
Are you hiring?
No. Grunwald is small and self-funded, so we can’t offer paid work. But we’re always glad to hear from scholars, translators, artists and readers who care about Belarusian literature and would like to connect.
