Kastuś Akuła (1925–2005) lived through the German occupation of Belarus before emigrating to Canada. His novel Tomorrow is Yesterday, published in Canada in 1968, was his only novel in English and one of very few uncensored accounts of wartime Belarus written from inside the Belarusian experience.
